Deputy Senate President pledges fairness to Tiga, Gari state supporters in Kano

Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, has provided assurance to the proponents of establishing Tiga and Gari states within Kano State, assuring them of fairness in the National Assembly’s review of the 1999 Constitution.

In a meeting held at the National Assembly on Wednesday, Senator Barau, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, extended this pledge to members of the movement led by Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa. The Deputy President of the Senate emphasized that the 10th Assembly is committed to granting all factions advocating for new states an equitable platform to present their arguments.

Senator Barau praised the dedication of the Tiga and Gari states movement for their persistence over the years in championing their cause.

Senator Doguwa emphasized the necessity for dividing Kano State into two separate entities. He highlighted that over the past four decades, the push for the division of Kano State had been based on its vast size and burgeoning population, with the aim of expediting development.

“Our aspiration is to create two additional states out of the existing Kano State, not to antagonize anyone, but to stimulate progress,” Senator Doguwa remarked. He urged the Deputy Senate President to lend his support to this initiative and lauded him for his various developmental projects spanning the three senatorial districts of Kano State.

The Deputy Senate President’s exceptional performance and rapport with the people, according to Senator Doguwa, played a pivotal role in securing the substantial votes garnered by the APC during the last general elections in Kano State. He stressed that Senator Barau’s influence within the APC in Kano State is undeniable, as demonstrated by the significant benefits all emirates in Kano have reaped from the multitude of projects he has attracted to the region.

Senator Doguwa expressed gratitude for Senator Barau’s contributions and extended best wishes for his tenure, invoking divine blessings for his continued success.
