DHQ: Armed Forces intensify efforts against terrorist threats across nation

In response to the persistent threat posed by terrorist groups, the Nigerian Armed Forces have redoubled their efforts in combating terrorism and its associated networks throughout the nation. Despite the inherent challenges, the military maintains a steadfast commitment to national security, characterized by preparedness, resolve, and strategic focus.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, underscored the unwavering dedication of the armed forces to counter-terrorism efforts during a recent media briefing. He emphasized the proactive measures undertaken by the military, including robust intelligence gathering, targeted strikes on terrorist hideouts, and disruption of their operational infrastructure.

Significant successes have been achieved in recent operations, notably the elimination of key terrorist commanders such as Abu Bilal Minuki (aka Abubakar Mainok) and Haruna Isiya Boderi. These individuals, responsible for orchestrating attacks across multiple regions, have been effectively neutralized by our troops.

The integration of ground and air forces has been pivotal in disrupting terrorist activities, with synchronized strikes facilitating precision airstrikes on identified enemy strongholds. This coordinated approach has significantly enhanced the operational effectiveness of our military engagements.

General Buba highlighted the tangible gains resulting from the military’s relentless pursuit of terrorists. Over 2,000 terrorists have been neutralized, thousands of suspects apprehended, and numerous kidnapped hostages rescued. Furthermore, substantial quantities of weapons, ammunition, and stolen crude oil, valued at over N20 billion, have been seized, reflecting the military’s commitment to dismantling terrorist financing and logistics networks.

The Director of Defence Media Operations provided specific figures on the weapons and oil seizures, including 1,497 AK47 rifles, 33,878 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and 21,573,310 liters of stolen crude oil. These confiscations underscore the efficacy of ongoing military operations in disrupting terrorist activities and safeguarding national interests.

General Buba emphasized that the successes achieved thus far underscore the effectiveness and outcome-driven nature of ongoing military operations. With each operation, the armed forces are setting higher standards in their mission to protect the nation and its citizens.

He concluded by reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to ensuring peace and security across diverse regions of the country, underscoring the military’s pivotal role in safeguarding national sovereignty and stability.
