Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 19 individuals suspected of internet fraud in Benin City, Edo State.
The operation, carried out by the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Directorate on Thursday, followed credible intelligence linking the suspects to fraudulent online activities. The arrests were made at multiple locations across the city as part of the commission’s ongoing crackdown on cybercrime.
During the raid, law enforcement agents recovered several incriminating items, including seven luxury cars, laptops, and mobile phones believed to have been used in fraudulent schemes.
According to EFCC officials, the suspects have provided useful statements during preliminary investigations. Further inquiries are underway, and they will be formally charged in court once investigations are concluded.
The EFCC continues to intensify efforts to combat cyber-related crimes across the country, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
