The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Directorate, has arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters in Wukari, Taraba State, in its sustained clampdown on cybercrime across the country.
The suspects were picked up on Wednesday, August 27, 2027, during an intelligence-driven operation behind the Federal University, Wukari. The Commission said the arrests followed credible intelligence linking the individuals to internet-related fraud activities.
During the raid, operatives recovered two cars, 12 laptops, and 46 mobile phones allegedly used in committing the crimes. The EFCC stated that the suspects would be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

The operation is part of the Commission’s broader effort to curb the growing menace of cybercrime, popularly known as “yahoo-yahoo,” which has been on the rise in many parts of Nigeria. EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has repeatedly emphasized that the agency will not relent in its crackdown on internet fraudsters, noting that such crimes damage Nigeria’s global reputation, discourage foreign investment, and ruin the lives of young people enticed by quick, illicit wealth.
Taraba, like many other states, has recently witnessed an uptick in cases of online fraud, often involving undergraduates and young graduates lured into digital scams. The Commission has urged parents, community leaders, and educational institutions to play stronger roles in sensitizing youths about the dangers and consequences of engaging in cybercrime.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to working with security agencies and international partners to dismantle cybercrime networks and ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
