The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) have agreed to enhance their collaboration in combating corruption and financial crimes.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede emphasized the need for strong alliances to effectively tackle corruption, describing it as a joint responsibility during a meeting on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Abuja, where CCB Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello paid a courtesy visit to EFCC headquarters.
Olukoyede noted that the agencies share aligned mandates and stressed the importance of rigorous investigation and prosecution to combat corruption. “Fighting corruption requires bold action, not leniency,” he remarked, adding that Nigerians must take ownership of the fight to build a better nation. He also urged the CCB to revitalize the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to bolster the anti-corruption efforts.
Bello echoed Olukoyede’s commitment, expressing CCB’s intent to work closely with EFCC to foster a more robust approach against corrupt practices. “We seek the EFCC’s support and assistance in our joint mission,” Bello stated. The meeting underscored both agencies’ dedication to a unified approach to reducing corruption across Nigeria.
