EFCC denies allegations of non-compliance with court orders regarding Yahaya Bello

In response to recent discussions surrounding the purported non-adherence to a court order concerning the failed apprehension of former Kogi State governor, Mr. Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted any claims of non-compliance with judicial directives in this matter.

In an official press statement released and endorsed by Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, the Acting Director of Public Affairs at the EFCC, the Commission unequivocally clarified its stance. While acknowledging Mr. Bello’s pursuit of relief through a fundamental rights enforcement action, as granted by Justice Isa Jamil Abdulallahi of the Kogi State High Court, the EFCC emphasized that this particular order did not invalidate a separate order issued by the Federal High Court for Bello’s arrest, with the intent of facilitating his arraignment.

Mr. Uwujaren highlighted that the Kogi State High Court’s ruling specifically pertained to safeguarding Bello’s personal liberties and freedom of movement, without impeding the Federal High Court’s authority to adjudicate on matters concerning the rights and obligations of the involved parties. Moreover, he emphasized the disparity between the criminal charges brought forth in the Federal High Court and the fundamental rights enforcement action under appeal, stressing their distinct legal nature.

Asserting the EFCC’s unwavering commitment to prosecuting individuals of political significance, Mr. Uwujaren urged Mr. Bello to comply with legal proceedings and address the charges levied against him by the Commission. He called upon all patriotic citizens to lend their support to the EFCC’s anti-corruption efforts, reaffirming the Commission’s resolute determination to combat corruption and uphold the rule of law.
