In a significant operation, operatives of the Makurdi Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended 14 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud. The arrests took place on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at a training center allegedly catering to potential internet fraudsters in Makurdi, Benue State.
Acting on intelligence, EFCC operatives raided a three-bedroom apartment believed to be functioning as a training facility for individuals seeking to delve into internet fraud activities. The apartment, situated along Achusa Road in Makurdi, served as a hub for training aspiring fraudsters.
Among those arrested were Asongu Terungwa, Aese Sonter, Nyoosu Terungwa, John Kator, Udi Micheal Aodona, Terungu Mnyam, Iorwuese Terhide, Ule Francis, Imoter Gloor Emmanuel, and Samuel Lubem. Additionally, the operation led to the apprehension of Wergba Tertamge, Erukaa Ephraim, Agenale Franklin, and Abechi Toryila.
During the raid, law enforcement recovered various incriminating items, including laptops, ATM cards, mobile phones, a Firman Generator, and a Toyota Corolla car.
Following their arrest, the suspects will undergo thorough investigations, after which they will be charged accordingly. The EFCC remains committed to combating internet fraud and ensuring that perpetrators face the full consequences of their actions.
As the investigation progresses, authorities will continue to work diligently to uncover and dismantle networks involved in fraudulent activities, safeguarding the integrity of the digital space and protecting individuals from financial exploitation.
