Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received during a two-day visit to Owerri, Imo State, describing the experience as a testament to Nigeria’s unity in diversity.
El-Rufai noted that the trip, which included engagements with religious leaders, traditional rulers, political associates, and community stakeholders, achieved its purpose of fostering dialogue for national progress.
“Owerri has been a great visit. We were well-received everywhere we went—from religious institutions to stakeholders and traditional leaders. It has been a consistent pattern of welcome and openness,” he said.

He thanked the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri for inviting him to deliver the 2025 Odenigbo Lecture, and also acknowledged his participation at the women’s conference of the Anglican Diocese of Egbu. El-Rufai commended His Highness, Eze Stephen Kemjika Agumanu of Nekede, for his hospitality, and appreciated the presence of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, at an interactive session despite not being in good health.
“We leave Owerri with great memories, inspired by the grace and dignity displayed by all who received us. It is an exemplary show of unity at a time when division is being stoked,” he added.
