The PAVE Network has inaugurated its Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter with a renewed call for collective action to prevent and counter violent extremism in Abuja.
Speaking at the launch, Chairperson of the Development and Management Team, PCVE Knowledge, Innovation & Resource Hub (KIRH) and PAVE Network, Mr. Jaye Gaskia, warned that radicalization is not confined to distant regions but is also taking root within the FCT.
“Violent extremism is impacting the FCT. We have seen displaced persons in camps and grievances that could fuel radicalization. These conditions must be addressed before they escalate,” Gaskia said.
The new chapter, he explained, will spearhead FCT-specific interventions by engaging policymakers, traditional and religious leaders, women’s groups, youth associations, and the media.
A central pillar of the initiative is the Knowledge Innovation and Resource Hub (KIRH), designed to serve as an open-source repository of knowledge, research, and expertise in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE). Its objectives include knowledge generation, quality assurance, technical support, and fostering innovation in PCVE strategies.
Media Consultant to PAVE Network and Editor-in-Chief of Global Sentinel, Senator Iroegbu, underscored the importance of adopting a whole-of-society approach. “The FCT is unique as Nigeria’s capital, and preventing violent extremism here requires everyone’s involvement,” he said.
The PAVE Network is also working to establish hubs across the six geopolitical zones and has begun partnerships to develop an e-learning platform, e-library, and interactive spaces for knowledge sharing.
