The FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, injected a sense of camaraderie during his recent courtesy visit to the Acting Commander of the Guards Brigade, Colonel Olusola Adebisi Onasanya, affectionately known as “the Chief Scorpion” at the Guards Brigade Headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, the Commandant acknowledged the strong collaborative relationship between the Civil Defence and the Nigerian Army, emphasizing the importance of extending this bond from senior officers to junior cadres in a progressive manner. He condemned any rivalry among security agencies and encouraged enhanced collaboration to bolster the country’s security efforts.
He emphasized the need to pass on the spirit of cooperation and synergy to lower-ranking personnel, stating that the visit aimed to uphold customs and traditions while fostering mutual understanding between their respective teams.
Commandant Odumosu commended the Nigerian Army for its maturity and camaraderie, attributing the NSCDC’s evolution to the military, particularly the Nigerian Army, dating back to the Nigerian civil war in the 1970s when civilians needed training in self-defense and protective measures.
He highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the two agencies and called for more effective cooperation, particularly in operations and training. By enhancing training programs, all security agencies could operate more efficiently and harmoniously, keeping abreast of the latest operational tactics.
The Commandant stressed the importance of collaboration in securing critical infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and expressed the need for cooperation among various security agencies.
In response, the Brigade of Guards Commander, Col. Olusegun Adebisi Onasanya, appreciated the courtesy visit and highlighted existing joint operations among security agencies in the FCT, which had contributed to a decrease in crime and security threats.
He promised to consult with the Defense Headquarters regarding the NSCDC’s training needs and emphasized the importance of promoting a healthier relationship between junior cadres of the Nigerian Army and the NSCDC.
He expressed the belief that such interactions would lead to a unified front for the nation’s security. He concluded by wishing Commandant Odumosu and his team a successful tenure in the FCT, emphasizing that the era of one agency acting in isolation was over.
The event was attended by other military officers and personnel, with a souvenir of the Guards Brigade, a scorpion emblem, presented to the visiting Commandant. The FCT Commandant’s entourage included key members of his team.
