The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The announcement, made by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, follows the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is part of the seven-day national mourning period declared on Sunday.
In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister described the holiday as a tribute to President Buhari’s enduring legacy in governance, national development, and democratic progress.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to national unity and progress. This holiday is an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on his leadership and the values he embodied,” the statement read.
Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to honour the memory of the late President by promoting peace, patriotism, and national unity.
As part of the mourning period, all national flags will continue to fly at half-mast until Saturday, July 19.
