Former EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Lamorde dies at 61; Arase eulogizes exemplary service

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, and retired Inspector General of Police, has expressed profound shock over the death of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ibrahim Lamorde.

The former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) passed away at the age of 61 in Egypt, where he was receiving medical treatment.

According to Head, Press and Public Relations Ikechukwu Ani, Dr. Arase in his tribute, praised Lamorde’s humility and his measured approach to power, emphasizing that these qualities distinguished his career. Arase recounted his advice to Lamorde after his tenure at the EFCC, encouraging him to refine his skills at the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) before re-entering mainstream policing. This guidance, Arase noted, significantly influenced Lamorde’s successful trajectory in the Nigeria Police Force.

Arase highlighted that Lamorde’s advanced training at NIPSS equipped him to handle greater policing challenges, ensuring his continued commitment and humility. “Power never got to his head,” Arase remarked, lauding Lamorde’s lifelong dedication to service and integrity.

Ibrahim Lamorde, born in 1962, joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General in 2021. He served as the third Chairman of the EFCC from 2011 to 2015, making significant contributions to intelligence policing in Nigeria. Lamorde hailed from Mubi in Adamawa State and left an indelible mark on the nation’s law enforcement community.

Dr. Arase concluded by noting the nation’s loss of a distinguished and consummate intelligence officer whose career was marked by significant contributions to the growth of intelligence-led policing in Nigeria.
