Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) following the arrest of a suspected arms courier allegedly transporting weapons destined for criminal networks in Katsina State.
In a statement signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the commendation was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, June 12, 2026, by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Governor Yusuf described the interception as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb banditry, terrorism and other violent crimes across Northern Nigeria, noting that the operation had averted a potential escalation of insecurity in affected communities.
According to the DSS, the suspect, identified as Muhammad Abubakar, 30, was arrested in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State while allegedly conveying four rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) tubes, three AK-47 rifles and two empty magazines to Funtua in Katsina State.
Preliminary findings indicated that the suspect reportedly received the consignment from an individual identified as Bello in the Maigatari border area of Jigawa State, with a promised payment of ₦450,000 upon successful delivery.
Governor Yusuf praised the professionalism and intelligence-led coordination of DSS operatives, stressing that the timely operation prevented the weapons from reaching criminal elements.

He further underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration and robust intelligence gathering in addressing evolving security threats nationwide.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, the governor pledged continued support for security agencies through logistics assistance, policy backing and strengthened community safety initiatives.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and to consistently provide credible information to security operatives to aid crime prevention efforts.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence that ongoing investigations would lead to the identification and prosecution of all individuals linked to the alleged arms trafficking network.
