ICPC Chairman mourns passing of Justice Ayoola, ex-chairman of ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Hon. Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola (JSC Retired), CON, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Justice Ayoola, a former Chairman of the ICPC, was a distinguished jurist whose contributions to Nigeria’s judiciary and global legal community are celebrated with profound respect.

Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the ICPC, expressed his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Commission to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Justice Ayoola. He described Justice Ayoola’s demise as the close of a remarkable chapter in the annals of Nigeria’s legal history.

Justice Ayoola’s illustrious career spanned over five decades, marked by exceptional integrity, sharp legal analysis, and a steadfast commitment to justice. His legacy includes significant tenures on the Bench in Nigeria and abroad, private practice, and his notable service as Chief Justice of The Gambia and at the Special Court for Sierra Leone.

As Chairman of the ICPC from 2005 to 2010, Justice Ayoola was a resolute advocate in the fight against corruption, a cause he pursued with unwavering dedication. His leadership during this period reinforced his reputation as a towering figure in the legal profession, inspiring future generations of legal practitioners and public servants.

Dr. Aliyu emphasized that the loss of Justice Ayoola is felt deeply not only by the ICPC but by the entire nation. However, his legacy remains a beacon of inspiration in the ongoing battle against corruption, offering hope for a more just and fair society.

The Chairman concluded his statement by praying for the Almighty to grant the Ayoola family the strength to bear this irreparable loss, bidding farewell to a revered jurist with the words, “Adieu, My Lord.”
