 IGP engages INTERPOL senior officials on transnational crime cooperation

  • Discusses viable partnerships to tackle transnational organized crime in Nigeria, West Africa

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, engaged with senior officials from INTERPOL in discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation on transnational crime. This high-level meeting, held on April 26th, 2024, in France, was part of the Regional Police Chiefs Committees Chairmen assembly convened by INTERPOL.

According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters, Abuja, the gathering, which included key figures such as INTERPOL’s President Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, focused on fostering collaboration to combat transnational organized crime.

During the sessions, the IGP interacted with prominent INTERPOL representatives, including Secretary General Dr. Jurgen Stock and Executive Director of Police Services Mr. Stephen Kavenaugh. Additionally, the presence of Vice President of INTERPOL for Africa, AIG Garba Baba Umar (Rtd.), and AIG Stanley Ude (AIG INTERPOL Abuja) contributed to the comprehensive discussions.

The deliberations centered on the utilization of INTERPOL’s extensive resources to address transnational organized crime, with specific emphasis on Nigeria and the wider West African region. In his capacity as the Chairman of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), the IGP underscored the significance of collective action in confronting security challenges that transcend borders.

Furthermore, he reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to leveraging its strengths, collaborating with other law enforcement agencies, and enhancing its e-policing capabilities to dismantle all forms of organized crime networks within Nigeria and across its borders.
