IPCR to launch conflict situation room to de-escalate crisis in Nigeria

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) is set to launch a National Conflict Early Warning Early Response (EWER) Situation Room aimed at identifying and mitigating potential crises in Nigeria.
This development was announced by Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, IPCR’s Director General, during a press briefing on the National Engagement and the launch of the Early Warning Early Response (EWER) program organized by Peace Action for Rapid and Transformative Nigeria Early Response (PARTNER) in Abuja.

According to Ochogwu, the Situation Room will operate as a centralized hub for gathering and analyzing data on potential conflict hotspots across the country. “By utilizing advanced technology and data analytics, we aim to identify emerging threats and provide timely responses to prevent escalation,” Ochogwu stated. He emphasized that the Situation Room would play a vital role in facilitating swift, coordinated responses among stakeholders, enhancing the effectiveness of conflict prevention efforts.

The EWER Situation Room, slated for launch on October 29, will be staffed by trained personnel ready to manage early warning systems efficiently.

Danjuma Dawop, Chief of Party for PARTNER with Mercy Corps, highlighted the significance of the initiative in Nigeria, where ethnic tensions, insurgency, and violence remain pressing challenges. He noted that “effective early warning and early response mechanisms have proven instrumental in mitigating violent extremism across Nigeria.”

Dawop added that the project aligns with global peacebuilding standards and is expected to contribute meaningfully to sustainable peace in Nigeria.
