The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, played a crucial role as he joined forces with the Federal Government’s Oil Theft Situation Assessment Delegation on a significant expedition to the Niger Delta. This delegation was comprised of eminent figures including the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Minister of Defence, the Ministers of State for Defence, Petroleum (Oil), and Petroleum (Gas), the Special Adviser on Energy to the President, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Air Staff, and the Commission Chief Executive of the National Upstream and Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), along with various other esteemed high-level officials and representatives from various government security agencies.

The primary objective of this expedition was to conduct an on-ground assessment of the rampant issue of oil theft within the region, particularly in areas susceptible to vandalization and marine-related oil theft activities. Koko, a significant location in this context, was chosen as the focal point for this assessment. The delegation visited vandalized sites and suspected facilities associated with marine-related oil theft activities in Koko, meticulously observing the extent of the damage caused and the operational mechanisms employed by those engaged in these illicit activities.

During this significant endeavor, the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Minister of Defence took the opportunity to reaffirm the unwavering determination of the Government to put an end to the detrimental issue of oil theft. Their resolute commitment to eradicating this menace was clearly communicated, underscoring the severity of its impact on the nation’s economy, security, and overall well-being. In addition to acknowledging the dire need for intervention, both the NSA and the Minister of Defence expressed their deep appreciation for the contributions of NNPC Limited in tackling the challenge of oil theft. They also extended their heartfelt gratitude to the gallant efforts of the armed forces and other government security agencies for their courageous actions in safeguarding the nation’s resources and security.

This mission not only highlighted the dire need to curb oil theft for the collective benefit of the nation but also underscored the collaborative spirit between governmental entities, security forces, and NNPC Limited.
