In response to recent media coverage suggesting the death of an elderly female worshipper during a program at the Prayer City, the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry (MFM) has issued a statement debunking these claims. Brother Collins Edomaruse, media aide to the General Overseer (worldwide) of MFM, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, clarified that the deceased actually passed away at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Ogun State.
Contrary to initial reports, Edomaruse explained that the elderly worshipper, whose name remains undisclosed, attended the Prayer City for a regular service on November 2, 2023, not for a residential program like ‘deliverance.’ Observations made by the clinic staff revealed that she appeared feeble upon arrival.
The worshipper was promptly escorted from the service to the clinic within the church premises and subsequently transferred to OOUTH, Sagamu. The incident was reported to the Ibafo Police station the following morning. Following her demise, OOUTH acknowledged the church’s swift action and commended MFM for its “sufficient duty of care” in transporting the individual to the hospital.
Matron Bisi Adewumi of the Prayer City Clinic provided a detailed account, stating that the deceased was brought in as an emergency case from the auditorium during a Thursday evening service. Upon physical observation, the clinic recorded signs of extreme pallor, indicating a shortage of blood. Recognizing the urgency, the worshipper was swiftly transported to OOUTH for necessary intervention and investigations.
Edomaruse emphasized that the Prayer City, located at KM 12, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, welcomes worshippers and seekers from around the world. While the ministry may not assess the medical condition of every individual within its facility, it ensures a first aid duty of care for anyone requiring medical attention.
He further clarified, “It’s simply a case of ignorance and misrepresentation of facts to claim that the unfortunate demise of a worshipper at a teaching hospital was caused by the ministry in any way.” Edomaruse underscored the ministry’s commitment to providing a covenant platform for divine encounters and teaching worshippers how to connect with the God of the Bible, yielding tremendous testimonies over the years.
