NAF deploys more aircraft to boost security in North-Central

In a renewed push to restore peace in Nigeria’s North-Central region, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed additional aircraft under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS). The deployment aims to strengthen joint military operations across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, made the announcement during a visit to Tactical Air Command in Makurdi on Monday, 17 June 2025. While addressing a high-level meeting alongside the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede; a representative of the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Olusegun Ferreira; and other senior commanders, the CAS provided updates on intensified operations across the region.

According to Air Marshal Abubakar, the new air assets offer enhanced operational capabilities—including real-time intelligence, close air support, and precision strikes—which have successfully neutralised militia camps and criminal hideouts. He reiterated that the deployment aligns with the Federal Government’s broader strategy to stabilise the Middle Belt.

“Our operations are focused on protecting innocent lives and maintaining relentless pressure on threat actors. As long as peace is threatened, our resolve remains unshaken,” he stated.

The Service Chiefs collectively stressed the importance of inter-service cooperation, describing jointness as critical to mission success. They assured the public that current efforts are part of a long-term strategy to ensure safety and normalcy for all residents in the region.
