NAF reshuffles top command to boost operational efficiency under new leadership

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the redeployment of several senior officers in a strategic move aimed at strengthening operational efficiency, promoting synergy, and realigning its structure with the command philosophy of the newly appointed Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.

According to a statement issued on Friday, October 31, 2025, by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, the postings approved by the CAS affect key positions at the NAF Headquarters, field commands, and operational units.

Air Marshal Aneke said the redeployment is part of ongoing efforts to optimise command effectiveness, improve decision-making, and enhance mission readiness in response to Nigeria’s evolving security landscape.

Under the new postings, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Abubakar Abdullahi becomes Chief of Policy and Plans, while AVM Adeniran Ademuwagun assumes duty as Commandant, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna. AVM Ibitayo Ajiboye has been appointed Group Managing Director, NAF Investment Limited (NAFIL) Group of Companies, and AVM Precious Amadi now serves as Chief of Operations.

Similarly, AVM Nnamdi Ananaba is now Chief of Air Intelligence, AVM Ebimobo Ebiowe takes charge as Superintendent of Standards and Evaluation, and AVM Ahmed Dari becomes Chief of Training. The Transformation and Innovation Branch will be headed by AVM Mohammed Ibrahim, reflecting NAF’s growing focus on technology and modernization.

In logistics and engineering, AVM Olufemi Ogunsina has been named Chief of Aircraft Engineering, while AVM Michael Onyebashi assumes command as Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Mobility Command. Others include AVM David Pwajok as Chief of Communication and Information Systems, AVM John Ukeh as Air Provost Marshal, and AVM Simon Peter as Managing Director, NAFIL Housing and Construction Company.

Further appointments include AVM Chidiebere Obiabaka as Air Secretary, AVM Anthony Martins as Chief of Administration, AVM Abubakar Sule as AOC, Logistics Command, and AVM Abdulrasheed Kotun as Managing Director, NAF Farms. The new Chief of Civil-Military Relations is AVM Edward Gabkwet, while AVM Osichinaka Ubadike becomes Deputy Commandant, AFIT.

Additionally, senior officers such as AVMs Ahmed Bakari, Albert Bot, Idi Sani, Muhammed Suleiman, Jibrin Usman, and Japheht Ekwuribe have been redeployed to various defence and inter-service establishments to strengthen joint operations and national defence coordination.

The Nigerian Air Force described the reshuffle as a “strategic realignment” designed to ensure balanced leadership, institutional efficiency, and continuity in the transformation agenda under Air Marshal Aneke.

With these appointments, the NAF stated it is poised to consolidate past gains and advance toward a more adaptive, technology-driven force committed to purpose, protection, and progress.
