NDLEA arrests businessman at Kano airport, recovers 127 wraps of cocaine

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, after he excreted 127 wraps of cocaine concealed in his private part and stomach.

According to a statement on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Emeka, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, was apprehended upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941 last Wednesday following credible intelligence.

A body scan confirmed that the suspect had ingested illicit drugs and concealed more in his private part. “A total of 58 wraps of cocaine were immediately recovered from his underwear, while another 69 wraps were excreted in seven rounds of excretion observation, bringing the total to 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilogrammes,” Babafemi said.

In related operations, NDLEA operatives intercepted three consignments of illicit drugs at courier companies in Lagos last week. The seizures included 1.74kg of methamphetamine hidden in blocks of glass ceramics, and several quantities of pentazocine and tramadol injections, as well as tramadol capsules disguised as Vitamin C. Other intercepted shipments included skunk, tapentadol, and cocaine concealed in household items and herbal containers bound for the UK, Turkey, Australia, and the UAE.

Similarly, officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, intercepted 27,510 pills of rohypnol concealed in sachets of alcoholic drinks destined for South Africa. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the suspected mastermind, 46-year-old Samuel Omoruyi, also known as “Yellow,” at Oyingbo Market in Lagos.

In Edo State, a raid on the residence of one Emmanuel Sunday at Ugbekpe Ekperi, Etsako Central LGA, yielded 47kg of cannabis, while operatives in Osun, Rivers, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna states made further arrests and seizures, including thousands of pills of tramadol, exol-5, and over 1,000 kilogrammes of cannabis.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men of the MAKIA, MMIA, and other state commands for their diligence and professionalism, urging them to sustain their momentum in the agency’s ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
