Over 500 girls empowered in FCT’s Ketti community on international day of the girl child

Over 500 girls in Ketti Community, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been empowered through an initiative by the Caleb Danladi Foundation to commemorate the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.

The event, themed “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls at the Frontiers of Crisis,” brought together hundreds of young girls, women, traditional rulers, and community leaders to promote girls’ education, leadership, and menstrual health awareness.

In his opening address, Capt. Caleb Danladi (Rtd), Founder and President of the Foundation, stressed the urgent need to tackle the growing number of out-of-school girls in underserved communities. He described girls’ education as a critical tool for reducing poverty and promoting gender equality. “We cannot build a strong and inclusive society when our girls are left behind. Every girl deserves access to quality education, safety, and equal opportunity to fulfill her dreams,” Danladi said.

As part of the outreach, the Foundation donated over 1,500 sanitary pads to participants, reinforcing its commitment to menstrual hygiene and ensuring girls do not miss school due to lack of sanitary products.

The keynote speaker, Barr. Saratu Bissala Alao, emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene and breaking societal taboos surrounding menstruation. She urged parents and community leaders to create a supportive environment that upholds girls’ health and dignity.

In his goodwill message, the District Head of Ketti lauded the Foundation’s efforts, describing the initiative as “timely and impactful.” He called for stronger collaboration among traditional institutions, government, and civil society to remove barriers hindering girls’ access to education.

The event featured motivational talks, cultural displays, and interactive sessions that inspired participants to embrace self-confidence and leadership.

The 2025 celebration ended on a hopeful note, with participants expressing gratitude to the Caleb Danladi Foundation for its continued advocacy for girls’ education, empowerment, and rights across Nigeria.
