The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that seven passengers sustained injuries on Tuesday following the derailment of an Abuja–Kaduna train near the Idda sub-station.
The Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, personally led the agency’s rescue team to the scene, where immediate first aid was administered to the victims before they were transported to hospital for further treatment. No fatalities were recorded in the incident.
According to NEMA, the rescue operation was a coordinated multi-agency effort involving the Nigerian military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies. Their prompt response ensured the swift evacuation of passengers and the smooth conduct of emergency procedures.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Transportation, including the acting Permanent Secretary, were also present at the scene. The ministry has dispatched investigators to determine the cause of the derailment, with findings expected to be made public in due course.
Train services on the Abuja–Kaduna route are a vital link for commuters and businesses, and the latest mishap has raised renewed concerns about rail safety and maintenance standards. Authorities have assured the public that measures are being taken to ensure passenger safety and prevent a recurrence.
