The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has stressed the importance of partnerships in advancing Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the areas of disaster management and humanitarian response.
She made the remarks during a high-level side event at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, themed “Global Partnerships, Local Prosperity: Unlocking Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Blueprint for Sustainable Growth.”
Mrs. Umar said NEMA is focused on fostering collaborations that move beyond donations to guarantee empowerment, sustainability, and resilience. “Our goal is to ensure that communities are not only supported in times of crisis but are also better equipped to withstand future shocks,” she stated.

Highlighting Nigeria’s shift from a reactive to a proactive disaster management approach, she stressed that effective response begins at the community and state levels. She pointed to Kaduna State as a model, noting its recent flood preparedness measures, including setting up camps and identifying higher grounds.
Reaffirming NEMA’s commitment, Mrs. Umar said the agency would continue working closely with federal, state, and international partners to build a stronger and more resilient Nigeria.
