The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) swiftly responded to a bomb explosion that occurred at approximately 1:47 p.m. on Monday near Abacha Barracks along the Abuja-Keffi Road.
Upon receiving the alert, NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office activated the AYA Emergency Response and Ambulance Team (ERAB) to coordinate rescue operations at the scene, which had been promptly cordoned off by security forces.
Preliminary information indicated that a suspected suicide bomber attempted to infiltrate the military barracks but was unsuccessful. The improvised explosive device (IED) detonated prematurely, killing the bomber instantly and injuring a passerby.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) evacuated the injured individual to the National Hospital for treatment and secured the area for further investigation. The response operation concluded at 5:29 p.m.
Agencies involved in the joint operation included NEMA, the Nigerian military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
