The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is set to oversee the distribution of a significant food donation from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to 5,606 households across various regions in Nigeria.
This generous contribution from KSrelief, an esteemed international humanitarian organization based in Saudi Arabia, comprises 5,606 food baskets. These provisions are designated for distribution among identified vulnerable individuals residing in Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina States, as well as an educational foundation in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Each food basket contains essential items such as 25kg of rice and beans, 4kg of masa vita flour, 2 liters of vegetable oil, 2kg of tomato paste, 0.8kg of seasoning cubes, and 1kg of salt. The distribution is structured to ensure that each household receives a total of 59.8 kg of nourishment.
The beneficiaries of these food items have been meticulously identified through a collaborative effort between NEMA and the State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA) of Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina. Specifically, Kano State is expected to cater to 2,056 households, while Jigawa and Katsina States will each serve 1,750 households. Additionally, 50 food baskets have been allocated for vulnerable individuals in camps and host communities within Maiduguri, Borno State, as identified by a non-governmental organization.
The distribution process will be conducted directly by NEMA and SEMA staff in Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states. In Borno State, however, the distribution will be managed by the Taibah Educational Foundation, a local non-governmental organization, under the supervision of NEMA personnel.
This initiative builds upon previous successful collaborations between KSrelief and NEMA, where similar food donations were effectively distributed in Zamfara, Borno, Yobe, and Kano States, underscoring the ongoing commitment to addressing food insecurity and alleviating hardship within Nigeria.
