The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) convened a hearing on Thursday in response to a petition from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN). MAN requested a reversal or indefinite suspension of the new electricity tariff rate outlined in the supplementary multi-year tariff order of April 3, 2024.
The hearing, held at NERC’s headquarters in Abuja, featured presentations from MAN’s legal counsel and Director General, Segun Ajayi-Kadir mni, who outlined the association’s concerns. Representatives of power firms and sector experts also discussed the macro-economic conditions influencing the tariff adjustment.
NERC Vice Chairman Dr. Musiliu Oseni, who chaired the hearing, acknowledged the submissions and announced that a ruling on the petition would be made within a thirty-day period, with a possible extension of fifteen days.
