Niger Tanker Explosion: House of Representatives offers condolences

The House of Representatives has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State. The incident, involving a petrol-laden truck on the Abuja-Kaduna highway, claimed over 86 lives and injured 55 others, as reported by the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA). Victims have been buried in a mass ceremony, leaving families and communities in mourning.

In a statement, Spokesman, House of Representatives Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr. said the speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, described the event as unfortunate and called for a thorough investigation to prevent future occurrences. He stressed the importance of road safety vigilance, especially for motorists.

The House of Representatives extended its deepest condolences to the affected families and communities, emphasizing the need to enhance the safe transportation of hazardous materials and enforce stricter road safety measures. This incident highlights the collective responsibility, including legislative efforts, to ensure safer Nigerian roads.
