The Federal Government has strongly condemned the reported Houthi militia attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which allegedly killed 12 civilians and injured more than 300 others.
In a statement, Spokesperson Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oluwafemi Adeniyi described the incident as a dangerous escalation that threatens civilian safety, violates Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and undermines ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday and signed by its spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, said the attack flagrantly disregarded the sanctity of civilian lives and international law.
The government called on all parties to respect international law, exercise maximum restraint and refrain from further actions capable of escalating tensions, endangering civilians, damaging civilian infrastructure or undermining regional security.
Nigeria also expressed solidarity with the government and people of Saudi Arabia, extending its deepest condolences to the families of those killed and wishing the injured a speedy and full recovery.
The statement underscored the need to respect Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while emphasising the international obligation to protect civilian populations and safeguard critical infrastructure.
The Federal Government commended Saudi authorities for their prompt emergency response following the incident and acknowledged their continued efforts to protect the Kingdom’s security and the welfare of its citizens.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to international peace and security, the government expressed support for diplomatic initiatives and constructive dialogue aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Middle East.
It further urged all stakeholders to support genuine efforts to promote regional stability, protect civilian lives and secure critical infrastructure against attacks.
The statement reiterated Nigeria’s position that restraint, respect for international law and sustained diplomatic engagement remain essential to preventing further escalation and achieving lasting peace in the region.
