Nigerian Army neutralizes terrorists, captures kidnappers, and recovers arms in nationwide operations

In a series of coordinated operations, the Nigerian Army has successfully neutralized several terrorists, apprehended suspected kidnappers of a retired military officer, and seized a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and logistics used by terrorists across the country.

On August 27, 2024, acting on credible intelligence, troops ambushed Boko Haram terrorists in Logomani village, Ngala Local Government Area, Borno State. During the firefight, five terrorists were neutralized, and one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and two bicycles were recovered.

In a separate operation in Gwoza Local Government Area, 11 Boko Haram fighters, along with their family members, voluntarily surrendered to the troops, citing their inability to withstand the Army’s firepower.

In Yobe State, troops ambushed a Boko Haram logistics supply route at Wulle village, Gujba Local Government Area. Two terrorists were neutralized, and an FN rifle, a magazine, and a bicycle were seized.

In Imo State, troops arrested four suspects connected to the kidnapping of retired Major General Richard Duru. The suspects attempted to bribe the troops with N5 million, which was refused. The troops seized the bribe money, three vehicles, six laptops, and a cash-counting machine.

Meanwhile, in Anambra State, troops apprehended a notorious member of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN), Sunday Ofordimze Asika, also known as “Aboy Ekwensu.” The suspect, part of a criminal syndicate terrorizing local communities, was found with six cartridges, five machetes, a laptop, a vehicle, and assorted charms.

In Cross River State, troops on waterway patrol intercepted an armed wooden boat at Ikang village, Bakassi Local Government Area. The suspects fled, abandoning a pump-action rifle, three cartridges, a boat engine, and N50,500, all of which were recovered.

These successful operations underscore the Nigerian Army’s commitment to national security, as they continue to execute their duties with professionalism and resolve.
