The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) will launch its contactless passport renewal solution in Europe on February 7, with the UK serving as the coordinating center.
Comptroller General of Immigration, Mrs. Kemi Nandap, announced the initiative during a courtesy visit to the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja on Tuesday.
“This initiative will allow Nigerians abroad to apply for and renew their passports online, eliminating the need for physical visits to consulates,” Nandap stated. She clarified that the service is strictly for renewals and excludes first-time applicants and minors.

She added that Nigerians overseas can begin the renewal process up to a year before expiration and that passport front offices will soon be opened in more locations across the U.S. and other countries.
Hon. Dabiri-Erewa lauded the initiative, emphasizing its role in easing passport processing for the diaspora. She noted that the contactless system had already been successfully launched in Canada and commended the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the NIS for their ongoing innovations.
