NNPC Retail Limited has commissioned its first Smart Self-Service Station in Abuja, introducing a technology-driven fuelling facility designed to provide customers with greater convenience, flexibility and access to multiple mobility services.
Located on Bill Clinton Drive, the facility integrates conventional fuel dispensing with electric vehicle (EV) charging, LPG services and other lifestyle offerings. Its 24-hour self-service system enables motorists to independently purchase fuel, select the exact quantity required and make payments at any time.
The station, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), was developed in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), which provided the land for the project.
Speaking at the commissioning, NNPC Ltd’s Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, described the facility as another milestone in the transformation of NNPC Retail.
He said the Smart Station demonstrated the company’s commitment to innovation, convenience, operational efficiency and improved customer experience, while commending the NIS for its sustained cooperation.
Managing Director of NNPC Retail, Huub Stokman, said the initiative was designed to respond to changing consumer expectations in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
According to him, Nigerian consumers increasingly demand quality products at competitive prices, efficient services, convenient payment options, value-added offerings and access to emerging energy solutions such as EV charging and compressed natural gas (CNG).
“This is precisely what this Smart Station represents,” Stokman said, noting that the facility combines energy solutions, technology and sustainability in a single location.
He also commended the NIS, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Africa Motor Works, technology partners, contractors and other stakeholders for their contributions to the project.
Stokman reaffirmed NNPC Retail’s plan to expand the Smart Station model across Nigeria and strengthen partnerships with public and private institutions to build a more technology-enabled retail network focused on evolving customer needs.
The Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, represented by the Deputy Comptroller General, Finance and Accounts, Saidu Bashir Daura, congratulated NNPC on the project, describing the facility as a model capable of encouraging investment in sustainable energy infrastructure and innovative transportation solutions.
The Smart Station has 16 Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) pumps and two Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) pumps, with storage capacity of 180,000 litres of PMS and 5,000 litres of AGO.

It also features an EV charging facility with an 86-point capacity, developed in partnership with Africa Motor Works, alongside an LPG dispensing facility, modern lubricant service bay and fully automated car wash.
The facility has also made provisions for the future installation of CNG infrastructure, further positioning it to support Nigeria’s evolving energy mix.
Powered by more than 200 kilowatts of installed solar capacity, the station also accommodates quick-service restaurants, a coffee shop and convenience store.
With its combination of fuel, alternative energy, digital self-service and lifestyle facilities, the new station represents a shift from the conventional filling-station model towards an integrated mobility and lifestyle destination.
