NNPC Retail sensitizes over 1,000 auto mechanics on CNG adoption and oleum lubricants

NNPC Retail Limited (NRL), a subsidiary of NNPC Ltd., has conducted a comprehensive sensitization program for over 1,000 auto mechanics as part of its efforts to promote the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cleaner and more affordable fuel alternative in Nigeria.

In a statement, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd. Abuja Olufemi Soneye said the awareness initiative took place during the National Artisans and Technicians Conference in Lagos, drawing auto mechanics and technicians from across the country.

The program focused on simplifying the process of converting gasoline-powered vehicles to CNG, highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of the transition. NRL also used the opportunity to raise awareness of its Oleum lubricant range, which is designed for both gasoline and CNG-powered vehicles.

This initiative underscores NRL’s commitment to driving Nigeria’s transition to sustainable energy while ensuring artisans are equipped with knowledge of emerging trends in the automotive sector. The event featured practical demonstrations, allowing mechanics to gain hands-on experience with CNG conversion processes.

Baba Shettima Kukawa, Executive Director of Retail Operations & Mobility at NRL, encouraged mechanics to acquire skills in CNG conversion, emphasizing its importance for the future of Nigeria’s automotive industry. He stressed that educating mechanics on CNG adoption is vital to achieving the country’s long-term energy goals.

Leaders of the Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN) and the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) praised NRL for its proactive efforts and called for the expansion of the initiative to include more technicians nationwide.

In support of the local automotive sector, NRL also distributed coveralls, toolboxes, and generators to mechanics, further promoting sustainability. NNPC Retail’s push for CNG adoption aligns with NNPC Ltd.’s broader vision to reduce the environmental impact of Nigeria’s energy consumption and offer more affordable fuel options for consumers.
