NSCDC commended for intensified efforts against illegal mining

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been lauded for its relentless crackdown on illegal mining, a move that continues to yield significant results in sanitizing the nation’s mining sector. Through its Special Mining Marshals, the agency has executed strategic enforcement operations across the country, disrupting unlawful activities and enhancing compliance with industry regulations.

In a statement released by CSC Afolabi Babawale, the National Public Relations Officer, the NSCDC’s sustained efforts—spearheaded by the Commander of the Special Mining Marshals, ACC Attah John Onoja—have not only curtailed illegal mining but have also reinforced adherence to regulatory frameworks.

Industry stakeholders have expressed appreciation for the progress made under the leadership of Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, PhD. During a recent stakeholders’ meeting, Professor Olusegun Omoniyi Ige, Director General of the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, commended the NSCDC’s proactive enforcement. He attributed the increased compliance with mining regulations to the agency’s unwavering commitment.

“The continuous arrests and clampdowns on illegal miners have compelled compliance with operational guidelines, gradually restoring order to this economically vital sector,” Professor Ige stated.

The meeting served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between the NSCDC and key industry players, reinforcing shared goals of a safer and more regulated mining sector.

Under the decisive leadership of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, the Special Mining Marshals have been instrumental in securing mining areas, protecting licensed operators, and eliminating criminal activities within the sector. Their enforcement actions have bolstered the industry’s integrity, paving the way for increased investment and mitigating the environmental impact of illegal mining.

With rising compliance and ongoing enforcement, stakeholders remain optimistic that these efforts will foster sustainable mining practices and contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.
