NSCDC intercepts vandalized rail bridge parts in Kaduna

Operatives of the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have intercepted a truck loaded with vandalized railway bridge components in a remote area of Kaduna State.

According to a statement released by the Corps, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence indicating the activities of suspected vandals targeting critical infrastructure in the area. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, NSCDC operatives mobilized to the location, where they discovered dismantled sections of a railway bridge already loaded into a container truck.

Although the suspects managed to flee the scene upon sighting the security operatives, the NSCDC successfully recovered key exhibits, including the vandalized metal components and the container truck used in the attempted transportation.

The Corps emphasized that the recovery is a significant boost to ongoing efforts aimed at curbing the rising cases of vandalism of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), which are essential to national economic development and public safety.

“The protection of Nigeria’s critical infrastructure remains a top priority for the Corps. This operation reflects our proactive approach and the effectiveness of intelligence-led interventions in preventing acts of sabotage and economic crimes,” the statement noted.

The NSCDC further confirmed that a thorough investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the criminal act. The agency has pledged to work closely with relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Railway Corporation and other law enforcement agencies, to ensure the culprits face the full weight of the law.

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, reaffirmed the Corps’ zero-tolerance stance on vandalism, warning individuals and groups engaging in such acts that they will be relentlessly pursued and prosecuted.

“We urge members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to help safeguard national assets that serve millions of Nigerians daily,” Dr. Audi said.

The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to intensifying surveillance, patrols, and intelligence gathering around key infrastructure such as pipelines, power installations, railway networks, and telecommunications facilities across the country.
