The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reiterated its commitment to institutional integrity with the inauguration of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU). The event, held in Abuja, also featured the launch of the Corps’ Whistleblowing Policy and the unveiling of the ACTU logo.
Speaking at the inauguration, NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Audi, represented by Deputy Commandant General in charge of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), DCG Mohammed Lawal Haruna, emphasized the Corps’ dedication to fostering transparency and accountability. He noted that the establishment of ACTU is a significant step towards building a credible and ethical institution that aligns with national development goals.
“This initiative marks a transformative shift aimed at promoting transparency, protecting whistleblowers, and ensuring swift investigation of unethical practices that undermine the Corps’ Standard Operating Procedures,” Haruna stated. He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in providing the necessary resources for the Corps to address emerging challenges effectively.
The Commandant General highlighted the positive impact of the appointment of the Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on the Corps, describing it as a catalyst for the ongoing reforms and improvements.
In his keynote address, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, represented by Mr. Olusegun Adigun, commended the NSCDC for its proactive approach to combating corruption. He described ACTU as a vital mechanism for upholding anti-corruption standards and urged the newly inducted members to discharge their duties with professionalism, impartiality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
“The ICPC is committed to providing technical and operational support to the ACTU in ensuring the Corps adheres to anti-corruption standards and promotes a culture of integrity,” Adigun said.
In her welcome address, Acting Commandant Audrey Obe, Chairperson of NSCDC ACTU, outlined the unit’s mission to promote ethical practices, detect corrupt activities, and institutionalize checks and balances within the Corps.
“To effectively combat corruption, we must implement robust measures that emphasize training, education, and the establishment of a transparent accountability framework,” Obe remarked.
The event concluded with the inauguration of 10 ACTU members, who took the Oath of Allegiance administered by Mrs. Nkem Ezenwa of the ICPC. The ceremony also featured goodwill messages from various agencies and the formal presentation of the ACTU Operational Manual by the ICPC Chairman to the NSCDC Commandant General.
