In preparation for the upcoming CAF Confederation match between Bendel Insurance and ASO Chlef FC of Algeria scheduled for Saturday, Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, paid a visit to the Benin Arsenals on Thursday. This visit aimed to observe the team’s training session in anticipation of the showdown set to unfold at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City at 4 pm.
Accompanied by prominent government officials, the governor infused enthusiasm into the team by announcing a N5 million cash reward as a motivational incentive for their triumph against the Algerian opponents on Saturday. Obaseki remarked, “Your remarkable journey to this point deserves acknowledgment. Today, I chose to stand by your side, witness your training, uplift your spirits, and remind you that this is only the beginning. We have made arrangements to transport you to all your match destinations. Our collective aim is to secure victory in this tournament. For now, focus on Saturday. Prepare well, ensure victory.”
He continued, “As a government, we are committed to supporting you. We hold you in high regard for the honor you bring us. Keep making us proud. Your capabilities as a team are well-known, and I will be present on Saturday to cheer you on.”
Expressing confidence in the team’s triumph, the governor projected that with the backing of the local crowd, Bendel Insurance Football Club would emerge victorious. He voiced, “With the backing of our home audience, I hold strong belief in their victory this Saturday. We encourage the people of Edo to come and experience the amenities we’ve provided in the State. They should seize the opportunity to enjoy the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.”
He added, “Instead of merely observing international leagues from our homes, we should invest in our own league. This marks the initial steps toward nurturing local sports interest and investing within our region.”
The Technical Director of Bendel Insurance Football Club, Monday Odigie, praised the governor for his continuous backing and inspiration, affirming, “We are expending our utmost efforts for Saturday’s match. Our preparation is near its pinnacle, and we eagerly anticipate a positive outcome.”
The elated players extended their gratitude to the governor and his entourage, guaranteeing victory and pledging an enthralling performance on Saturday.
Among the governor’s entourage were the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha; Chairman, Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Anthony Aziegbemi, and the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Darlington Obaseki.
