The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of elder statesman and former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Parry Benjamin Osayande, CFR.
In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Owaen Fred Itua, on Sunday, Governor Okpebholo described the late DIG Osayande as an exemplary patriot, a reformer, and a symbol of integrity whose life was dedicated to the service of Nigeria and Edo State.
“Our State has lost a giant, a man of impeccable character whose contributions to peace and security, especially during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in the then Bendel State, remain indelible,” the Governor stated.
He noted that Osayande’s fearless fight against notorious criminal gangs in the 1980s set a benchmark for police operational excellence in the country. Beyond his operational achievements, Osayande was celebrated for his intellectual contributions to policing reforms, serving on several presidential and police reform committees even after retirement.
“His name will forever be remembered for courage, discipline, and a commitment to justice,” Governor Okpebholo said, while extending condolences to the Osayande family, the Benin Kingdom, and the people of Edo State.
The Governor prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and for strength to his family and associates in this period of grief.
