Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has halted all recruitment into the state civil service and ordered a review of appointments made since May 2024.
In a statement Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Fred Itua said in a directive issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Musa Umar Ikhilor, on Friday, the Governor accused heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of engaging in secretive hiring practices, including issuing backdated employment letters without following due process.
The notice emphasized the administration’s commitment to fairness and equity, stating that all recruitment must be merit-based, competitive, and open to all Edo indigenes.
“To curb this trend, His Excellency has directed the immediate suspension of all employment processes and the review of appointments carried out by Commissions, Boards, Parastatals, and Agencies of Government since May 2024. Heads of MDAs are expected to comply fully with this directive,” the statement read.
The move aims to ensure transparency and accountability in civil service employment under the current administration.
