Troops kill notorious bandit leader’s deputy in Kogi

Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Operation ACCORD III, have neutralised Babangida Kachala, the notorious second-in-command to bandit leader Kachala Shuaibu, during an operation in Kogi State.

According to Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 12 Brigade Nigerian Army Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the incident occurred on 11 September 2025 when troops, acting on intelligence, laid an ambush around Ofere Forest and Ayetoro Gbede. While withdrawing from the area, they came under bandit fire but overpowered the criminals in a fierce gun battle.

One bandit was killed on the spot, while Babangida Kachala, who initially fled with gunshot wounds, was later confirmed dead. Items recovered include a fully loaded magazine, 31 mobile phones, Tramadol tablets, fetish charms, a blood pressure machine, and ₦16,000 in cash.

The Army said the operation dealt a significant blow to bandit networks in the state, stressing that troops remain on high alert with ongoing patrols and ambushes to dismantle criminal elements.

It also urged residents to continue providing timely intelligence to support security efforts.
