Operation DELTA SANITY nets major illegal oil interceptions

In a significant crackdown on illegal oil activities, Naval Base OGUTA intercepted a convoy of vehicles and a mini-bus, resulting in the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of illicit materials.

On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Naval operatives intercepted three vehicles bearing suspicious number plates: Anambra HAL 828MX, Anambra FGG 998LM, and Imo AG 148 URL. Each vehicle was found to be transporting 15 large bags containing an unspecified quantity of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). The interception took place at Orso-Bodo, Oguta Local Government Area (LGA), Imo State.

Simultaneously, on the same day, authorities intercepted a mini-bus carrying stolen crude oil concealed in nylon bags. The interception occurred in Oguta LGA, Imo State. Three suspects were apprehended during the operation. Additionally, one pump-action rifle and 19 cartridges were seized by the Naval operatives.

Operation DELTA SANITY, spearheaded by Naval forces, aims to curb illicit oil activities in the Delta region. This recent operation underscores the ongoing efforts to tackle illegal oil refining and smuggling, which pose significant environmental and security risks to the region.

The apprehended suspects and seized materials have been handed over to appropriate authorities for further investigation and legal action.
