In a decisive move against illegal oil activities, the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base FORMOSO, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, conducted a successful operation under the code name “Operation DELTA SANITY.”
The operation led to the discovery and impounding of three boats laden with an unspecified amount of stolen crude oil. The interception took place in the Botokiri Axis of Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, a region notorious for oil theft and related criminal activities.
The boats were intercepted following intelligence reports about the movement of stolen crude oil in the area. Naval forces swiftly mobilized and executed the operation, cutting off a significant route used by oil thieves. The exact quantity of the crude oil on board the vessels is yet to be determined as investigations continue.

This operation is part of a broader effort by the Nigerian Navy to curb oil theft and other illegal activities in the Niger Delta region. The Forward Operating Base FORMOSO has been at the forefront of these efforts, consistently disrupting the operations of oil thieves and ensuring the protection of Nigeria’s oil infrastructure.
The success of this operation underscores the Navy’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s resources and maintaining stability in the region. Authorities have assured that the investigation will be thorough, and those involved in the illegal activities will be brought to justice.
