The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four senior national officers, including the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, over alleged anti-party activities.
Also suspended are the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade; and the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osouha.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the NWC held on Saturday in Abuja.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, said the affected officers were suspended for one month and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action.
“The officers were suspended for a period of one month and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action. During the suspension period, the affected officers cease to function in their respective capacities,” Ologunagba stated.
He further explained that in line with Section 36(2) of the PDP Constitution, the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. (Arc.) Setonji Koshoedo, will act as the National Secretary. Similarly, the National Directorate of Legal Services has been directed to oversee the activities of the Legal Department pending further decisions.
Ologunagba assured that preparations for the party’s National Elective Convention, scheduled to hold in Ibadan between November 15 and 16, will proceed as planned despite ongoing internal disputes and recent court judgments.
The PDP has in recent times been embroiled in internal crises marked by allegations and counter-allegations among its top officials.
