The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing national security and addressing the recent spate of kidnappings in Imo State.
In a statement Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, AbujaACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said in a series of operations, the Imo State Command has made significant progress in combating crime, particularly in the Owerri area.
He said recently, police operatives arrested five suspects linked to kidnappings in the Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa areas. The suspects, identified as Umaru Usman (40) from Sokoto, Tukur Yau (25) from Kano, Musbau Sabo (18) from Warsaw LGA in Kano, Abdul Ibrahim (30) from Sokoto, and Jubrin Idris (35) from Sokoto, were apprehended on August 21, 2024, in Avu, Imo State. The operation also led to the successful rescue of a kidnapped victim.
Additionally, the police arrested Nwauba Alex, a 25-year-old from Ezza LGA, Ebonyi State, on the same day while he attempted to rob two residents at gunpoint near Aladinma Primary School, Owerri. A locally made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and torchlights were recovered from the suspect.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, reiterated the force’s dedication to combating insecurity through both proactive and reactive measures. The Nigeria Police Force continues to enhance security efforts to protect citizens and tackle crime in Imo State and across the country.
