The FCT Police Command has identified and taken into custody officers allegedly involved in the extortion of ₦40,000 from a resident along the Wuye-Utako Road in Abuja.
In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer FCT Police Command, Abuja SP Josephine Adeh, the development followed a video circulating on social media in which the officers were accused of extorting the money from the resident near Salem Church within the Federal Capital Territory.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, said the officers shown in the video had been identified and were currently in custody pending investigation.
The Command has also invited the complainant to appear at the FCT Police Command Headquarters to make an official statement and provide information that could assist the investigation and facilitate appropriate disciplinary action.

Sanusi reiterated that the Command would not tolerate extortion, abuse of authority, misconduct or other forms of unprofessional conduct by police personnel.
He said any officer found culpable after due investigation would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action in line with extant laws and regulations.
The Command urged residents of the FCT to report cases of police misconduct and provide credible information that could assist investigations.
It reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, professionalism and respect for the rights of residents across the Federal Capital Territory.
