Police tighten nationwide security ahead of 2026 JAMB examinations

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed circulating reports alleging security threats to some examination centres ahead of the forthcoming Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations, describing them as unfounded and misleading.

The examination is scheduled to commence on April 16, 2026.

In a statement issued signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja DCP Anthony Okon, the Police said it is aware of rumours circulating on social media suggesting insecurity in certain centres within a North Central state, but stressed that such claims have no basis.

While noting that it does not act on rumours, the Force said it had taken cognisance of public concerns regarding the safety of candidates and had deployed enhanced security measures nationwide.

According to the statement, additional personnel have been stationed at examination centres across the country, with both overt and covert deployments aimed at preventing any security breaches. These include routine patrols, perimeter surveillance, and rapid response teams positioned at strategic locations.

The Police also disclosed ongoing collaboration with sister security agencies to monitor, detect, and respond swiftly to any potential threats during the examination period. It warned that individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the exercise would be promptly identified and brought to justice.

The Force assured candidates, parents, and the general public that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure a safe and conducive environment for the conduct of the examinations. It urged candidates to arrive early at their centres, comply with examination regulations, and report suspicious activities to security personnel on site.

Members of the public were further advised to disregard unverified information circulating online and rely only on official communications from JAMB and the Police.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining peace, public safety, and confidence in national examinations and other key civic processes.
