The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a caution to the “Take It Back Movement” over its planned nationwide protest scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025 — a date officially designated as National Police Day by the Federal Government.
In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF expressed concern over the timing and perceived intent of the protest, which coincides with a day set aside to honour the resilience and commitment of police officers across the country.
While reaffirming its respect for the constitutional right of citizens to peaceful assembly, the NPF questioned the motive behind organizing a protest on a day when dignitaries — including foreign Inspectors-General of Police and diplomats — will be in attendance to celebrate the nation’s law enforcement achievements.
The statement noted that April 7 has been officially adopted as National Police Day in line with international best practices, and any action undermining this commemoration is “ill-timed, mischievous, and unpatriotic.”
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reiterated the Force’s dedication to upholding the law and protecting citizens’ rights. He urged the organizers to reconsider their plans and engage relevant government institutions through dialogue to address their concerns.
