Southern Borno constituents rally behind Betara

A groundswell of political support has emerged across the Biu, Bayo, Kwaya Kusar and Shani Federal Constituency in Borno State, as constituents endorse the continued leadership of Hon. Muktar Betara Aliyu, citing what they describe as impactful and people-oriented representation.

The endorsement, announced on April 21, signals growing cohesion within the constituency, with community leaders, youth groups and civil society organisations aligning in support of the lawmaker’s performance in the House of Representatives.

Stakeholders across the four local government areas attributed their backing to a series of constituency interventions, including infrastructure development, education initiatives, healthcare support and youth empowerment programmes. They noted that these efforts have led to measurable improvements in living conditions, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Residents and local leaders characterised Betara’s representation as accessible and responsive, emphasizing that his engagement with constituents has strengthened public trust and ensured that projects reflect the immediate needs of the people.

Notably, the endorsement cuts across political divides, with groups of differing affiliations reportedly setting aside partisan interests to support the lawmaker. Analysts view this as indicative of a shift toward performance-driven political support in parts of the North-East.

A community stakeholder, reflecting a widely shared sentiment, said the endorsement was rooted in the desire for continuity in development, stressing that effective leadership naturally earns public confidence.

The Biu/Bayo/Kwaya Kusar/Shani Federal Constituency remains a key political bloc in Borno State, where representation at the federal level is closely linked to development outcomes. Over the years, constituents have relied on lawmakers not only for legislative duties but also for projects that address gaps in infrastructure and social services.

Betara, a veteran legislator, is widely regarded as having leveraged his experience to attract federal resources and attention to the constituency.

Although the next electoral cycle has yet to be formally declared, observers interpret the endorsement as an early indication of political alignment. The unified support is expected to bolster Betara’s standing within his party and the broader political landscape, where grassroots acceptance remains a critical factor.

For many constituents, however, the endorsement goes beyond electoral considerations, representing a reaffirmation of trust and a call to sustain ongoing development efforts in the constituency.
