- Pays condolence visit to Zaria over mosque collapse, bandits’ attack
- Says military formation to be established in Zaria
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen Ph.D., has affirmed that the 10th National Assembly is taking decisive action to curb the recent surge in attacks across the nation. These measures aim to prevent any further resurgence of insecurity.
In a visit to the Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, to offer condolences following tragic incidents, Speaker Abbas expressed his sadness. The first incident involved the collapse of parts of the Zaria Central Mosque during Asr prayer, resulting in casualties. The second incident was a bandit attack in Kofar Gayan, Zaria, which claimed two lives.
Speaking in Hausa, the Speaker assured the Emir and the people of Zazzau that the House has taken steps to prevent similar occurrences. The military plans to establish a formation in flashpoint areas around Zaria to prevent future attacks on communities.
The Speaker stated, “We have taken measures in response to the reemergence of banditry. We are engaging the military, and they will establish a presence near the female school in Kofar Gayan. They have provided this assurance.”
He also pledged his personal contribution to rebuilding the mosque and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to offer condolences.
Kaduna State House of Assembly Speaker Hon. Dahiru Liman also expressed sadness and pledged to support the reconstruction of the mosque.
The Speaker was accompanied by House members, including Hon. Kingsley Chinda and Hon. Ali Isa, who made generous donations towards reconstructing the Zaria Central Mosque.
The Emir of Zazzau thanked the Speaker for the condolence visit and expressed sorrow over the incidents. He acknowledged the significance of the incidents and appreciated the donations for rebuilding the mosque.
The Speaker presented a letter of condolence on behalf of the National Assembly’s leadership before departing the palace.
