Subsidy Removal: AbdulRazaq approves N10,000 support for Kwara students

  • Govt to publish application link this week
  • To support security agencies with stipends

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has issued a directive to provide financial support to students of Kwara origin studying in public-owned tertiary institutions. Each eligible student will receive a one-time payment of N10,000. This decision represents a departure from the previous bursary award system, which only covered final year students in tertiary schools. In the past, the bursary amount for final year students was increased from N5,000 to N10,000.

The Governor has also given approval for a stipend of N10,000 each to certain categories of security agents who are considered the first line of defense. The disbursement of this stipend will be managed through the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) Office.

To ensure the smooth coordination of these support initiatives, a government committee will be established, led by Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, the chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB). This committee will be comprised of officials from the Ministry of Tertiary Institution, the bursary department, the Ministry of Finance, as well as representatives from the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) and National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Kwara State.

The committee will soon publish a web link that eligible students can use to apply for the state bursary. Applicants will be required to provide the necessary information and documentation within the specified dates to avail of the financial support.
